Energy Management

Energy Management

The School Committee implemented the current Energy Conservation Management Policy as well as the Administrative Procedures for Energy Conservation in 2005. These documents outline the district’s energy conservation objectives and also recognize the need for all students and staff to participate in energy savings efforts. The policy and procedures were implemented after contracting the services of Energy Education, Inc. to aid in the development of a more structured conservation program with guaranteed minimum energy savings and the promise of more savings.

Through the combined energy savings efforts of our students and staff, as well as the continued assistance from Nstar’s municipal program, the district has achieved notable success. Our total energy cost avoidance as compared to our baseline year of 2003-2004 now averages over 30% annually. This cost avoidance has allowed the district to offset rising delivery charges and to minimize increases to the total annual energy budget. In order to maintain this success and to reach even further, we ask all Plymouth school building occupants to be mindful of their energy use and to refer to the guidelines outlined in the Plymouth Public School District’s policy and procedures. The district is committed to pursuing solutions which will decrease its energy consumption while at the same time seeking alternative energy sources in an effort to decrease its overall energy costs.

The district encourages its students and staff as well as members of the community to continue these energy savings efforts outside of the school community. Where energy conservation is a data driven process, we use a program called EnergyCAP to track our progress and monitor usage. EnergyCAP has developed a free version of this product called Green Quest which is tailored towards home owners and small businesses and can be found at http://www.energycap.com/products/greenquest .  Best of luck with your individual energy savings efforts!
