Welcome

I hope that you and your family have taken the opportunity to share some good times this summer.  As usual, we have been preparing for the upcoming 2011-2012 school year and are very excited to start back.  This year is one that comes with great significance as we mark the 10th anniversary of September 11.  Most people that I have spoken with about the events of that day can clearly remember what they were doing as the news of the tragedy spread across the world.  It is hard to believe that 10 years have passed, although for many of us it feels like it happened only yesterday.

This year, in honor of September 11, I would like to start by focusing on the word “Imagine.” Over the past three years, I have encouraged you to focus on inspiring our students to “Dream” of what they want out of their lives.  I would like to take this concept a little farther by prompting you to “Imagine” if those “Dreams” actually came true.  This year’s opening day presentation is inspired by the thought of facilitating dreams into reality.  We have a very special presentation planned for you that I hope can inspire you as you begin this year of great significance.  I can only imagine where our current students will be 10 years from now.

The current grade 4 class was born in 2001 and, in some cases, they were born on or soon after.  There will be many events over the next few weeks that will trigger thoughts of the way it was in 2001 and prompt you to think of the many changes in the 10 years since.  Having experienced this event confirms my dedication to the challenge that we must inspire our students to not only “Imagine” their “Dreams,” but to also make those “Dreams” a reality.

    Sincerely,
                                                      Gary E. Maestas, Ed.D.
