About our Program

Vision Statement of the School Library Program

  • The Library Media Department of the Plymouth Public Schools seeks to promote a culture of literacy and learning to enhance achievement and foster independent readers, self-directed learners, and responsible digital citizens.

Mission Statement of the School Library Program

  • The Library Media Department of the Plymouth Public Schools promotes the development of independent reading habits and information literacy skills.  Our students will become critical readers who acquire, evaluate, and ethically use information to solve problems and investigate topics of interest.  To facilitate this mission, we will provide available, flexible, and inviting learning spaces and access to updated digital and print resources that represent diverse perspectives.  Library media specialists will collaborate with teachers and administrators to design learning experiences that support district goals and curriculum objectives.

Mission Statement of the School Technology Program

  • Our mission is to provide technology-rich environments where learners are empowered to think critically, solve problems, communicate, and collaborate in order to be college, career, and citizenship ready in a global society. Our role is to provide resources that support teaching and learning with technology, including professional development, infrastructure, software, and support.

Literacy and Information Technology Class

All students in grades K-5 participate in Literacy and Information Technology class each week. The mission is to encourage individual curiosity through research skills, to empower users to become discriminating and responsible users of technology, to inspire creativity and collaboration, to enhance critical-thinking skills through computer science, to support digital literacy skills, and to foster a lifelong love of reading and learning. The Massachusetts Digital Literacy and Computer Science Standards and National School Library Standards are embedded within the curriculum.
